BASIC HYDRAULICS FOR FLOOD CONTROL AND WATER SYSTEMS APPLICATIONS

Our engineers are tasked with planning, designing and reviewing significant flood control/drainage projects.  With the passing of time, basic understanding of hydraulics tends to fade.  Consequently, total reliance on software-solutions without the required basic understanding increases the risk of design errors, which may result in over/under-designed facilities, reduced public safety and the potential for costly litigation.

This course offers an opportunity to address the often-overlooked depletion of engineering-hydraulic-expertise, through a few hours of dedicated instruction.  To that end, I have developed a practical hydraulics course, which reviews the underlying hydraulic principles and focuses on practical real-world situations.

I believe that this course will provide not only technical benefits but also help boost staff-morale. For, one non-tangible way to say thank you to our staff is to re-enrich them with knowledge, which may have faded over time.

BAS TRAINING OBJECTIVES

This seminar will prepare the civil engineer for the design, analyses and optimization of side-weirs and offline retarding systems.  The seminar will specifically cover the overall design of an offline basin system.  This will include the routing of flows over the side-weir and into the basin as well as flows exiting the basin through the outlet or the spillway.
